Disability Information

Motlow provides equal access to educational opportunities, programs, and activities in the most integrated setting appropriate for qualified students with disabilities. Disability Services offers support in developing a college accommodation plan that addresses individual needs of a student with a disability. Efforts are made to ensure that facilities and programs are accessible to all students. Accessible parking and accessible building entrances are available on all campuses. Elevators and evac chairs are available in multi-level buildings at the Moore County and Smyrna campuses.

Students seeking help through Disability Services should be prepared to disclose the presence and nature of a specific disability. Before receiving requested accommodations, documentation of your disability is required along with a completed application for Disability Services.

Students may apply for college accommodations through electronic application and inquire in person about available services at all campus locations.

How do I Apply for Services?

  • Login to MyMotlow
  • Click on the Student tab
  • Click Disability Services in the options list under the Student tab
  • Click the Application for Disability Services and complete it
  • Upload documentation of your disability to the Application and submit it 
  • Return to the Student tab, complete the Consent form and submit it
  • Participate in an interview with Disability Services staff to discuss an accommodation plan

General Guidelines for Documentation

  1. Evaluation from a Qualified Professional - a report, summary or evaluation from a professional that can diagnose or treat a disability. A professional could be a medical provider, mental health provider, psychological examiner or a school psychologist.
  2. Documentation should be current - a disability may change over time and document should support current accommodation needs
  3. Documentation should support accommodation need
    • Diagnosis should be included
    • Limitations associated with the diagnosis should be part of the document to show why an accommodation is needed

How are Accommodations Provided

The Office of Disability Services will develop an academic support and accommodation plan designed to fit the individual need of the student. Student information is confidential. However the Office of Disability Services may consult with faculty members or others to create a reasonable accommodation plan.

The student is responsible for discussing accommodations with instructors. However, the Office of Disability Services is available to support communication and provide advocacy to carry the accommodation plan forward.

Parking for Individuals with Disabilities

Accessible parking spaces designed to support motor vehicles with a disabled parking tag/permit are available on all campus locations. Vehicles utilizing these accessible parking spaces will need to have a valid disabled parking tag/permit and a Motlow parking tag/permit. Appropriate documentation can be submitted to the Disability Services office to obtain a temporary disabled parking tag valid for accessible parking on Motlow campuses.

Study Resources

TOTALLY AND PERMANENTLY DISABLED

A student that is totally and permanently disabled, as defined by the Tennessee Board of Regents, may complete the Certificate of Total Disability to apply for reduced tuition.

To be admitted as a totally and permanently disabled student, please complete the following:

  • Apply to Motlow.
  • Submit your Certificate of Total Disability or affidavit from a physician or appropriate agency to the Admissions office.
  •  Reduced tuition based on total disability is separate from eligibility for disability services including college accommodations.
  •  Students must self-identify with the Disability Services office and follow the process to apply for Disability Services to access a college accommodation plan.
