Graduate College Before High school

Motlow State Middle College offers you the opportunity to receive an associate degree before you even graduate high school. Eligible juniors from participating high schools can qualify for additional scholarships.

Eligibility for Middle College

  • Junior at a participating high school
  • ACT score of:
    • Math 19+
    • Reading 19+
    • English 18+
  • Tennessee resident for one (1) year before the date of application
  • Minimum 3.0 high school grade point average (GPA) at the end of your sophomore year of high school
  • Apply to Motlow
  • Some high schools may have additional eligibility rules


  • Check your Motlow email account for important notifications
  • Check your MyMotlow account to track your admission status
  • The Hope Scholarship is available to all students who earn an associate degree and enroll at an eligible four-year institution
  • Students who do not receive the Middle College scholarship in the fall semester of their junior year in high school are not eligible to receive it at any other time
  • Middle College Scholarship is not available for the summer semesters
  • Students cannot receive a Middle College scholarship and a Dual Enrollment grant at the same time
  • Students cannot regain the Middle College scholarship once the award has been discontinued for any reason
  • If you do not complete Middle College and earn an associate degree
    • Your attempted hours count towards the 120-credit hour limit
    • Each full-time semester counts toward the eight (8) full-time equivalent semester hours
    • The number of years enrolled in Middle College count towards the five (5) year limit for the Hope Scholarship


  • Submit the online Middle College scholarship application each year by September 1 (Award amount is $1,000 per semester, $2,000 per year)
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 Motlow grade point average
  • Maintain full-time enrollment for each semester at Motlow
