Survey Results

Motlow continues to focus on the academic and professional well-being of our faculty, staff, and students. Extensive research has identified good educational practices related to retention and other desired student outcomes. We regularly conduct surveys to help us understand the opinions across our institution. Our primary surveys are the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE), the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), and the Survey of Entering Student Engagement (SENSE). 

CCSSE helps Motlow focus on best educational practice and identify areas where we can improve our programs and services for entering students. This survey asks students about their college experiences: how they spend their time, what students feel they have gained from classes, how students assess their relationships and interactions with faculty, counselors, and peers, and so on. Each year, the survey selects a special-focus topic and develops new items to enable colleges to explore more particular issues to improve student engagement and success. 

Conducted annually, IPEDS provides basic data needed to describe, and analyze trends in postsecondary education in the United States, such as the numbers of students enrolled, staff employed, dollars expended, and degrees earned. A data feedback report compiles survey results to provide Motlow with a resource and to help improve the quality and comparability of IPEDS data. The report offers a selection of indicators for us to compare with similar institutions.

Students respond to the SENSE survey in class. Motlow receives survey reports that are used to improve programs and services for entering students. SENSE data helps improve course completion rates and the rate at which students persist beyond the first term of enrollment. This survey enables Motlow to analyze, benchmark, diagnose, monitor, and respond to student issues, which demonstrates accountability to students, to the College, and to our accrediting agencies.
