What is the Difference Between an emt and aEMT?

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMT) are first responders. EMT graduates traditionally proceed to the AEMT certificate. Many then advance to become Paramedics.

This program prepares you to earn your EMT Certificate. Certificates are programs of study that vary in length and prepare you for occupational employment. Requirements vary by area of study.

After you finish Emergency Medical Training, you can take the State of Tennessee’s Practical Certification Examination. Next, you’ll take the written exam, administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

You will learn:

  • Effective communication
  • Biology, the body and its systems, pathophysiology
  • How to deliver patient care
  • Patient assessment
  • Development and implementation of treatment plans
  • Clinical decision-making
  • Professional behavior
  • Roles and responsibilities in the emergency medical services systems.
