Teachers believe in the transformative power of education.

Elementary education is the general field of study for elementary teachers in both public and private settings. Excellent teachers have strong leadership and people skills, enjoy being around children, want to teach, believe in the transformative power of education, are adaptable to change, and enjoy working with complex issues and ones that are not easily solved.

The Associate of Science in Teaching (A.S.T.) degree at Motlow State Community College prepares transfer students for grades K-5 teacher education programs. Motlow has articulation agreements with Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee State University, and a 2+2 with Tennessee Tech University. Students can also pursue an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree and continue their education at Athens State University or Lipscomb University.

As teachers get new students each year, there are always opportunities to meet the needs of new and different learners and connect with children. If this sort of challenge sounds like something you’re interested in, consider pursuing a degree in elementary education.
