Newly-hired Assistant Director of Student Success Kareem Kenney will double as the Interim Head Coach for the women’s basketball team at Motlow State for the 2024-2025 season. Kenney comes to Motlow with approximately 17 years of coaching experience and is excited to be a part of the program’s growth.

Kenney served as the Associate Head Coach on both the men’s and women’s basketball staff during his 10 years at Fort Valley State College in Georgia. While there, he helped lead the men’s team to two SIAC Conference championship game appearances and one Eastern Division Championship. He later held the position of Assistant Athletic Director at Talladega College, where also he worked as Player Development Coach on the women’s team before becoming an Assistant Coach for two seasons on the men’s team.
While this year’s team is still looking to add players to fill out its roster, Kenney is proud of the work the current players have already done and encourages the community to watch their growth.
He stated, “I am very grateful for the opportunity to lead this team. My goal is to establish a strong foundation for the program. We don’t want to let any challenges hinder us from moving forward. We want to establish a footprint in the community and get to know potential players in the area. Our area is filled with quality players, and we want to take advantage of their talents. In addition, we want to continue to build the program and make sure that we tap into our community resources to build a great future. We have a really good group of young ladies who work very hard.”

Damron’s restaurant has already partnered with the team, and he hopes that other business owners and leaders in the area will work with the players and come speak to them for networking opportunities and sharing information in their areas of expertise. Kenney also encourages young athletes to attend games and connect with the Motlow Bucks so they can learn more about Motlow and see if it is the right fit for them.
