University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) Agreement

Motlow has several options for students wishing to continue their engineering education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC).

There is an agreement that includes three Tennessee Transfer Pathways (TTP) and one unique transfer pathway:

  • BS Civil Engineering
  • BS Electrical Engineering
  • BS Mechanical Engineering
  • BAS Mechatronics Engineering Technology

Additional options include:

  • Dual Admissions
  • Honors Transfer

BS Civil Engineering

This agreement applies specifically to students attending Motlow State’s Smyrna campus. Students who complete an A.S. University Parallel with Civil Engineering Emphasis at Motlow can utilize the TTP towards completion of a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering at UTC.

This agreement applies specifically to students attending Motlow State’s Smyrna campus. Students who complete an A.S. University Parallel with Electrical Engineering Emphasis at Motlow can utilize the TTP towards completion of a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering at UTC.

BS MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

This agreement applies specifically to students attending Motlow State’s Smyrna campus. Students who complete an A.S. University Parallel with Mechanical Engineering Emphasis at Motlow can utilize the TTP towards completion of a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering at UTC.

AAS Mechatronics Technology to BAS Mechatronics Engineering Technology

This agreement applies specifically to students attending Motlow State’s Smyrna campus. Students completing an A.A.S. in Mechatronics at Motlow can seamlessly transition to a B.A.S. in Mechatronics Engineering Technology at UTC.

Dual Admissions

A dually admitted student first enrolls at Motlow State. Upon completion of the associate’s degree, the student will then enroll at UTC to pursue a bachelor’s degree. The dual admission program provides advisement and transition support services by both institutions.

Eligibility

  • Plan to pursue both an associate degree and a bachelor’s degree
  • Meet admission criteria for Motlow
  • Have earned less than 30 college-level semester hours and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Complete an Intent to Participate form and submit it to Motlow’s admissions office

Advantages to Students

  • Guaranteed acceptance to UTC 
  • Save money by completing first two years at Motlow
  • Become familiar with UTC staff and academic advisors to better facilitate the transition process
  • Receive a UTC campus student ID card and have access to UTC events for a nominal fee

Honors Transfer

Motlow Honors program graduates may be admitted to the Honors college at UTC via the Innovation in Honors (IIH) Program.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum 3.25 GPA
  • Verification of good standing from Motlow
  • Complete IIH application

All honors courses successfully completed at Motlow in other academic departments will transfer as relevant general education courses. They will count toward the 24 hours of honors credit required for the Honors College diploma.

IIH Program Requirements

  • Innovation Lab I (3 hours)
  • Innovation Lab II (3 hours)
  • Brock Seminar or other approved honors or experiential course (3 hours)*
  • Departmental Honors Thesis or Honors College Thesis (4 hours)
  • UHON 2000 (1 hour)
  • UHON 3000 (1 hour)

*Motlow’s 21-Hour Honors requirement, including the Honors Seminar (IDSH 1020, 1021, 1022, or 1023, 3 hours each) will satisfy the requirement above. Students entering UTC will complete the other requirements listed above.
