Tennessee State University Transfer Agreement

Motlow has several options for students planning to continue their education at Tennessee State University (TSU). These include:

  • Dual Admission
  • BS Applied Industrial Technology, leading to MS Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management Concentration from UTSI
  • BS Aeronautical and Industrial Technology
  • BS Agricultural Sciences

Dual Admission

A student enrolled at Motlow is admitted to TSU, but does not enroll in TSU courses until the student graduates with their associate degree from Motlow. The dual admission program provides advisement and transition support services by both institutions.

Eligibility

  • Plan to pursue bachelor’s degree at TSU
  • Meet admission criteria for Motlow
  • Have earned less than 30 college-level semester hours and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0, or cumulative GPA of 2.75 for the Associate of Science in Teaching (A.S.T.)

Students are ineligible if they fail to complete the associate degree. Students who attend another institution between the time they graduate from Motlow and enroll at TSU must reapply to TSU as a transfer student. Additionally, if there is a break of more than one year in attendance, students must reapply to the dual admission program.

Advantages to Students

  • Guaranteed acceptance to TSU upon completion of associate degree at Motlow
  • Save money by completing the first two years at Motlow with lower tuition and fees
  • Become familiar with TSU staff and academic advisors to better facilitate the transition process
  • Receive academic advising from both institutions, including early advisement from TSU
  • Students are able to register during the priority registration time period at TSU the semester of graduation from Motlow

BS Applied and Industrial Technology, leading to MS Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management Concentration from UTSI

Through a partnership between Motlow, TSU and the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI), students who complete their Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Mechatronics at Motlow can pursue a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Applied and Industrial Technologies at TSU, and a research-based curriculum leading to the Master of Science (M.S.) in Industrial Engineering with an Engineering Management concentration from UTSI.

STEM occupations are projected to grow nearly twice as rapidly as all occupations in Tennessee. This partnership offers students the opportunity to finish all three degrees while gaining valuable on-the-job training in the various STEM industries in middle Tennessee.

Engineering Management Master’s Program

The M.S. program in Industrial Engineering with Engineering Management (EM) concentration at UTSI is designed for working engineers to be better prepared for today’s dynamic workplace. Engineers and scientists must be able to make sound management decisions while working in fast-paced technical environments. EM provides practicing engineers with experience balancing technical depth with leadership, project management, financial management, technology transfer, ethical and legal perspectives, team relations, organizational behavior, and continuous quality improvement. It empowers students with the knowledge and skills needed to lead technical organizations or processes to success.

Admission Requirements

Students completing the 2+2 program with Motlow and TSU who receive a B.S. degree in Applied and Industrial Technologies will be admitted to the M.S. in Industrial Engineering with Engineering Management concentration program if they meet the following requirements:

  • Overall GPA of at least 2.7 of a possible 4.0, or 3.0 of 4.0 during the senior year of bachelor’s undergraduate program
  • Completion of Calculus II and a calculus-based physics course with grades of “C” or better

BS Agricultural Sciences

Students can complete an Associate of Science (A.S.) in Agriculture – Animal Science degree at Motlow, then utilize the Tennessee Transfer Pathway (TTP) to transfer to TSU and pursue a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Agricultural Sciences, all on Motlow’s Fayetteville campus.

Motlow Courses to Meet Area of Emphasis Requirements

  • CHEM 1110 – General Chemistry I
  • CHEM 1120 – General Chemistry II
  • AGRI 1020 – Introduction to Animal Science
  • AGRI 1030 – Introduction to Plant Science
  • Agriculture Electives (3-5 credit hours)

Conditions for Transfer

  • Minimum 2.0 GPA required for transferable credit
  • This applies to the B.S. Agricultural Sciences only
  • A change of major invalidates these courses/credits for transfer unless they are approved within some other program-to-program agreement for a different major
