Faculty Council Policy : 6:10:00:06

I. PURPOSE

The Faculty Council of Motlow State Community College was established in order to:

  1. Promote faculty participation in academic decision-making according to sound principles of higher education.
  2. Provide an orderly process for improving communication and mutual understanding between the administrative officers and faculty of the college.
  3. Foster mutual trust and respect.
  4. Facilitate the expression of the collective opinion of the college faculty.

II. MEMBERSHIP & FUNCTIONS

The Faculty Council consists of representatives elected by the faculty within each of the academic divisions. A division is entitled to one representative for each five members or major portion thereof. Any faculty member may attend meetings, but only members of the council or member(s) appointed as substitute(s) for member(s) unable to attend a meeting may vote.

The Faculty Council Constitution (Policy 7:00:00:01) outlines and describes fully the functions, structure and membership, procedures, and bylaws of the organization within the policies and procedures of the institution. Recommendations should be forwarded through the President to the Leadership Council.

The Faculty Council chairperson shall be given three credit hours of redistributed time each semester during the academic year.

The Faculty Council meets as needed, with times announced, during the fall and spring semesters. The chair- elect and secretary for the next school year are chosen at the last meeting of the spring semester.
