Responsible Executive: President
I. PURPOSE
This policy outlines the duties assigned to the President of Motlow State Community College (Motlow State), a member of the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), pursuant to TBR Policy 1.03.02.00.
II. RESPONSIBILITIES
- The President of Motlow State shall be the executive head of Motlow State and of all its departments and shall exercise such supervision and direction as will promote the efficient operation of Motlow State, consistent with the mission and policies of TBR and the applicable state and federal laws.
- The President shall be responsible to TBR through the Chancellor for the operation and management of Motlow State and for the execution of all directives of TBR and of the Chancellor..
- The President shall be official medium of communication between the faculty and the Chancellor, and between the faculty, staff, and students (through the Faculty Council, Administrative Council, Support Staff Council, and Student Government Association), and the Chancellor.
- The President shall recommend annually to the TBR, through its Personnel and Compensation Committee, the creation or continuance of positions of faculty and other employees of Motlow State.
- The President shall have the authority to recommend or make appointments of personnel and, within budgetary limitations, to adjust their salaries, and to recommend or approve promotions, transfers, leaves of absence, and removal of personnel, pursuant to the requirements of policies and procedures established by TBR, and subject to such prior approval or continuation of TBR or the Chancellor as may be required by TBR.
- The President shall make any report requested by the Chancellor or the TBR regarding Motlow State under the President’s control.
- Because the President is expected to build and maintain strong relationships in the community, the President is required to live in Motlow State’s service area, unless an exception is approved by the Chancellor.
